Frequently asked questions.
-
We are located in Great Missenden, HP16.
-
Due to the volume of orders, we are no longer able to offer delivery for most customers. There are exceptions for wedding cakes or larger cakes that require setup. For these, delivery is charged as an extra fee, depending on distance needed to travel.
-
Take extra care when travelling. Place the cake in the passenger footwell or car boot - NOT on the car seats or in someone’s lap. The cake needs to be level to reduce the risk of damage or collapse. Cakes by Emma take no responsibility for damages caused to the cake once it has left our premises. During transport, try to ensure that the cake is kept as close to room temperature or cooler as possible, this is to ensure that the buttercream doesn’t melt. DO NOT leave the cake in the car whilst running errands, especially in warmer months. Try to take the cake directly to the desired venue straight after collection.
-
If you don’t need your cake straight away after collection, storing at room temperature will help keep your cake for one or two days. DO NOT store fondant cakes in the fridge, as this can cause them to sweat. If your cake is stored in a warm room, this may cause the buttercream to melt and can cause the cake to collapse. If you do not have adequate storage arrangements in place, please try to arrange your collection close to the time you will need to serve the cake.
-
As our cakes are custom made, the prices vary depending on what design you would like and the size of the cake. If you complete our Request A Quote form, we’ll be more than happy to get a quote to you based on your needs.
-
We only take deposits for wedding cakes and some larger orders. However, we do require payment to be made before the cake is collected, unless paying cash on collection.
-
All of our cakes are vegetarian and halal friendly. If you would like a vegan cake, we do offer this as an option. Just let us know when requesting a quote!
-
Whilst we can offer cakes that don’t contain particular ingredients at request, we do have to let customers know that all of our cakes are prepared in the same kitchen. If there’s a particular allergen that you don’t want in the cake, let us know and we will take the upmost care to prepare and bake the cake separately to our other orders. However, we cannot minimise the risk entirely, so please take that into account when placing your order. Also, if you request store bought chocolates or biscuits on top of your cake, please be aware of their own allergen warnings.
-
Aside from our amazing custom cakes, we also offer cupcakes, mini cakes and biscuits!
-
Our core flavours are Victoria Sponge, Vanilla, Chocolate Fudge, Lemon, Red Velvet or Oreo. However, if you have your heart set on a particular flavour, feel free to get in touch and we can see if this is something we can cater for.
For wedding cakes, we do offer a wider range of flavours and have the option for tasters.
-
Victoria Sponge is a vanilla sponge with a buttercream and jam filling. On the other hand, Vanilla is a vanilla sponge with just a buttercream filling.
-
All of our cake flavours come with a complimentary flavoured buttercream. Victoria Sponge is the only exception in that it comes with either strawberry or raspberry jam, alongside the buttercream. However, if you want to have jam/curd or anything other type of filling, do feel free to let us know and we can discuss this as an option.
-
As standard, all of Emma’s cakes are made with four layers. The resulting cake is usually 5-6 inches tall before toppings. If you wants a particularly tall cake but don’t want an extra tier, we do offer up to two extra layers for an additional cost. Alternatively, if you want a shorter cake, we can accommodate that too.
-
Whilst we do prefer at least 10 days notice for orders, we understand that some things can’t be helped. We do get booked up extremely quickly, so we do recommend getting in touch in advance. If you are short for time, don’t hesitate to pop over a message and we’ll see if we can squeeze your order in.
